Alastair Stewart is a freelance writer and communications professional.

In 2019, Alastair joined Orbit as an account manager devising public affairs strategies and key messaging opportunities for clients in the recycling, property and aquaculture sectors. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

A weekly columnist for The Scotsman, Alastair has a keen interest in Scottish politics and reforming devolution, pop culture and promoting the life of Sir Winston Churchill.

He is committed to assisting young people with employability and leadership skills, volunteering as a Prince’s Trust mentor and hosting regular writing workshops for aspiring writers.

Alastair’s fiancée is from Gevgelija, Macedonia and he’s proud of his adopted heritage. He is a trustee and director of communications for the United Macedonian Diaspora, an NGO promoting the interests and needs of Macedonian communities worldwide. Alastair is a communications consultant for the Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians and previously volunteered as a senior press officer and devolution adviser for Bremain in Spain, a grass-roots movement campaigning to keep Britain in the EU.

Alastair was formerly a press officer and parliamentary aide at the Scottish Parliament before working as a communications manager at an international school and freelance journalist in the south of Spain. He remains an enthusiastic speechwriter for clients in the public and private sector. Alastair graduated from Edinburgh University with a degree in International Relations with a particular interest in British political history and the Second World War.

An avid reader, he adores the Flashman papers; has fallen in love with comic books and is writing his first play about Churchill’s relationship with his father. He splits his time between Edinburgh and Macedonia with his fiancée and occasionally dazzles in the kitchen (although she questions this assertion…).
